I love teaching! I have been teaching now for over forty years.God has blessed me with the gift to teach Reading and l am using that gift now as a First Grade teacher.  I was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica where I earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.),and a Diploma in Theology from Caribbean Christ for the Nations.

I have always believed in bringing out the best in all my students with God's help.As a result, I try to instill in them the all powerful words from Philippians 4:13

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Ever since I can remember I have had a love for working with children. I have been teaching for a total of 15 years. This will be going on my second year working at West Oak Christian Academy. I have a master’s degree in elementary education. I love to create an atmosphere in my classroom that is loving and inspiring. I love to teach my students how important it is just to try their best everyday and let God do the rest. My favorite teaching quote,” Shoot for the moon! Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars!

I have been teaching at West Oaks for 9 years. I am so excited to be here and I look forward to a wonderful year!  I graduated from Indiana University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree and Associate’s Degree. I believe that children are a gift and possess diverse talents and capabilities. I consider it a privilege to help facilitate their learning and academic growth. I believe each student learns in their own way and style. I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where each student can have the opportunity to experience success and progress. It is my goal to help encourage my students to look beyond the four walls of our classroom and view the world around them as a place of learning and discovery.

Teaching has been my passion since the age of 5. I can remember lining my stuff animals up and pretending they were my students. My passion for teaching is as strong today as it was back then. This is my first-year teaching at West Oaks Academy, but I have been educating students for the past 10 years. My experience ranges in many educational capacities. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary studies from the University of Central Florida. I pride myself on fostering the best learning experience to my students. I encourage my students to show up every day ready to learn and engage. I don’t allow students to be complacent with average scores. I challenge them to try a little harder because I know what each student is capable of. Teaching goes beyond the classroom. Teaching is being a mom sometimes; a sister and most importantly a friend. I create a learning environment that allows me to operate in any capacity the students require. I leave you with my favorite teaching quote by B.F Skinner” Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten”.

Vonda White is originally from Orlando, Florida, where she began her teaching career over 15 years ago, presently entering her fifth year at West Oaks Academy. Vonda graduated from Florida Memorial University earning her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree. As a child growing up in a family of educators, Vonda realized at a young age teaching was her passion. Vonda believes that becoming an educator opens the opportunity to impart life lessons that students will never forget, allowing you to be in a position to influence their decisions, behaviors, strengths, weaknesses and imaginations. Teaching to Vonda is one of the most direct ways to make an impact and invaluable contribution. She knows that she is taking part in shaping the next generation. Through her years of teaching, she had the potential to interact with students at all stages of development and from all walks of life. Vonda believe each student have their own learning style. Her goal is to continue fostering a safe and nurturing classroom environment where each student can have the opportunity to achieve success.

This is my first year at West Oaks Academy but I have worked in education for 24 years. I have taught in 3 countries - England, Australia, and now here in the United States.  I was actually born and raised across the 'pond' in England and then moved to Sydney, Australia with my husband and two children. In 2010 we moved to Florida and we became U.S. citizens last year!

I have a passion for education, in fact, it must run in the family as my husband and daughter are also teachers! I believe that all children have the right to learn in a caring, inclusive and positive environment and with God's guidance I strive to achieve this in my classroom every day. My goals are to teach my students to develop a love of learning, to try their best in all that they do, and to have a belief in themselves that they can achieve wonderful things. I feel blessed to be part of the West Oaks Academy family and I am looking forward to an amazing year!
